Røssåga and Leirelva.

It is the duty of fishing rights holders and card sellers to inform fishermen of the local fishing rules. It is the fisherman's duty to familiarize himself with the applicable fishing rules in the watercourse so that fishing is practiced in accordance with these.

Røssåga and Leirelva Elveeierlag SA has fishing inspectors in the watercourse who, on behalf of the team, ensures that the fishing rules and the obligation to provide information are followed. The Norwegian Fisheries Inspectorate has the authority to take action and report violations of the fishing regulations in accordance with these fishing rules.

This document consists of both public and private fishing regulations. The fishing rules apply in the salmon-carrying part of the river, from below Sjøforsen in Røssåga and from Innerenget in Leirelva, and down to the river/sea border in Røssåga. It is in this area that the management team's fishing rules apply, and the fisheries inspectorate is responsible.

From the border/river sea, as well as out of season, the State Nature Inspectorate is responsible for supervision. During the time when fishing is not permitted in the watercourse, it is forbidden to fish closer than 100 meters in the sea, from the border between the river and the sea (the 100-metre zone). During the time when fishing is permitted in the watercourse, you can fish from shore with a rod and handline in the 100-metre zone. In that case, the same quota provisions as laid down in regulations apply.

Fishing from a boat in the 100-metre zone is not permitted. We remind you that all traffic in and by the river is at your own risk.

§1 Fishing season for salmon and sea trout

NIGHT CLOSED: From 1st of August and for the rest of the season it is not allowed to fish for either salmon nor trout during the hours from 00 to 06 in the night!

Fishing time for salmon in the Røssåga watercourse with the Leirelva is: 01.07-31.08.

Fishing time for sea trout in the Røssåga watercourse with Leirelva is: 01.07.-31.08.

Due to the special situation that has arisen with regard to red-listed wild salmon, tightening of quota, fishing time and rules could be introduced at short notice. Such changes will be notified in writing to license holders and directly to fishermen who have already purchased a card.

§2 Fish conservation and minimum size.

All salmon and sea trout under 30 cm must be released alive again.

Winter spawning: All spawned salmon (winter spawning) must be released alive again.

Female salmon conservation: All female salmon are protected and must be released in a gentle manner. If there is any doubt about the sex of the fish, the fish must be released in a gentle way. The female salmon protection applies throughout the season.

Salmon over 65 cm:

All salmon over 65 cm are protected in this river and must be released in a gentle manner. This applies for the entire season.

Trout:

It is desirable that the trout is also released carefully so that it can spawn. The trout counts towards the quota (see below)

§3 Mid-season evaluation

Røssåga and Leirelva Elveeierlag SA is not required to have a mid-season evaluation, but we will still gather the board about halfway through the season and assess whether the current fishing rules can continue through the season. In the event of an abnormally low intake of salmon, the Norwegian Environment Agency can introduce extraordinary measures.

§4 Quota provisions and reinstatement

Fishing license and fishing fee

The fishing license is personal and cannot be transferred to others. Everyone over the age of 18 must have paid the fishing fee to fish in the Røssåga watercourse with Leirelva.

Quotas

The quotas are personal and cannot be transferred to others. The quotas apply to the entire watercourse. Daily quota follows the day of the date. Seasonal quota follows the calendar year. When the daily quota for fish has been reached, fishing must end for the current fishing day. When the seasonal quota for fish has been reached, fishing must end for the season. When the quota for released fish has been reached, fishing must end for the current fishing day.

Daily quota

1 killed fish per day. All salmon over 65 cm and all female salmon are protected.

Release quota:

Maximum of 2 fish per day.

Seasonal quota

Salmon/sea trout: 2 killed fish per season. All salmon over 65 cm and all female salmon are protected.

Catch and Release:

All releasing of fish must be done gently and according to current guidelines approved by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (lakseelver.no) Released fish must be registered/reported as released. When you have released two fish within a day, fishing must end for the current day. Applies regardless of whether it is salmon or sea trout. Damaged fish, where it is doubt whether it will survive a release or not, must be killed. If it is a protected fish, it must be delivered to the land owner/fishing license seller where the fishing license seller/land owner should be immediately notified by SMS with the text "Slaughtered damaged salmon + kg/cm". This fish will not be included in the quota, but must be registered in the ordinary way.

All farmed salmon must be killed and documented with a photo, possibly shown to the fisheries inspectorate. Remember to register/report.

§5 Gear use and fishing methods

You can fish with Fly and Blinker with a maximum of two hooks and clamped barbs (fly and bobber are not permitted.) Worms and all other fishing gear than fly and blinker is prohibited. It is only allowed to fish with one bait per rod. Anything not mentioned here is prohibited.

Fish net should be knot free!

§6 Catch reporting

The fisherman is obliged to report all catches of salmon, sea trout, farmed salmon and humpback salmon to the Røssåga and Leirelva Elveeierlag via www.elveguiden.no as soon as possible. This also applies to returned fish and zero catch. The catch report must contain at least the date, catch/zone/stretch, type, sex, weight, the fisherman's full name, gear, whether the fish has been killed or released, the number of lice and whether it has had its fat fins trimmed.

All winter spawning of salmon must be reported as winter spawning.

All farmed salmon must be registered as farmed.

All humpback salmon must be registered as humpback salmon.

§7 Shell sample and otolith sample of catch

Fishermen are obliged to take a shell sample of all killed salmon. If possible, the team would like to have shell samples taken from salmon to be releases, but then extra care must be taken so that the salmon are not damaged. A shell sample is taken according to the instructions on the shell sample envelope, and sample envelopes are provided by the landowner/manager, fishing license seller, Korgen Camping and Huset. An otolith sample must also be taken from all killed salmon. The sample is taken according to the instructions in this brochure (korgen.no/laks/otolitt.pdf).

If desired, fishermen can put the salmon's head in a plastic bag marked with catch data and deliver it to Korgen Camping where it can be kept in a freezer. Remember then that the shell sample envelope must always follow the fish head.

§8 Disinfection of fishing equipment and other fishing gear

All fishing equipment and other equipment (for example, nets, waders etc.) that have been used in other rivers in the current season must be disinfected before use in Røssåga and Leirelva. A disinfection certificate must be shown when buying/renting fishing, as well as when controlled. There is a disinfection station at Korgen Camping, close to the reception.  

§9 Exception rules in special circumstances

In the event of unforeseen events that may have a major impact on the stock, the team may choose to close fishing. Any changes to the rules will be announced on this web site as well as on Korgen 's web site. The card holder Will also be notified.

 §10 Behavior in the river

Mobile fishing must be practiced. Start above fishermen who are already on the stretch. Handle all fish bearing in mind that they may need to be released. Show consideration for other fishermen, especially when counter-fishing. Report illegalities to the supervisory authority or Røssåga og Leirelva Elveeierlag SA. Leave the fishing grounds and fireplaces as you would like to find them. All travel at your own risk.

§11 Violation of the fishing rules

Violation of the fishing rules may result in a fee, expulsion, exclusion and/or a police report. In the event of special incidents and gross violations of the rules, Røssåga and Leirelva Elveeierlag SA can impose stricter reactions than what is mentioned here.

The following reactions apply to Røssåga and Leirelva (applies per incident and per fisherman):

Fishing without a fishing license holder's permit/valid fishing license: prohibited for the rest of the season and possibly also next season.

Quota violation: banned for the rest of the season and possibly also next season.

Missing catch reporting: banned for the rest of the season

Violation of the rules on the use of equipment: banned for the rest of the season

Lack of disinfection: banned for the rest of the season

Fishing in the conservation zone: prohibited for the rest of the season

Violations of public fishing rules are reported to the police.

§12 Acceptance from fishermen

When fishing, the regulations are accepted and the subsequent reaction to violations of the rules.

When fishing, it is accepted that violations of fishing rules are dealt with by the board of Røssåga and Leirelva river owners SA and, if necessary, relevant information about violations of fishing rules can be passed on to relevant licensees and/or fishing license sellers.

Shell and otolith samples

Shell and otolith samples must be taken from all killed salmon. These tests are very important for research into which measures work and which do not work and can be absolutely decisive for whether we will have a good and sustainable river in the future.

NB! As many may experience difficulties in taking otolith samples, it is recommended to cut off the head of the fish, put it in a bag and deliver it to the landowner, Korgen Vertshus or Korgen Camping. Then knowledgeable people will ensure that the otoliths are removed.

NB: Shell samples are placed in their own envelope and must always accompany the fish head! Envelopes for shell samples will be delivered with the purchase of a fishing license / when an agreement is made with the landowner. Envelopes are found at Korgen Camping and at Huset Cafe and Motell.
