Gloppen River - Fishing rules

Everyone who is going to fish in the Gloppen river has a duty to familiarize themselves with the current fishing regulations.

§1 Registration before fishing starts.

Everyone who is going to fish in the Gloppen river must "buy" the Gloppen card (free) before fishing starts and this is a registration card cf. the Salmon Act §25. The Gloppen card is not a fishing licsenc. can be bought at www.elveguiden.no, after downloading the Elveguiden app. In addition, everyone who is going to fish in the Gloppen River must register at www.elveguiden.no, and this is to be able to report catches and catch reports must be carried out as quickly as possible.

§2 State fishing tax

Everyone who fishes for salmon and sea trout in the Gloppen River must have paid the government fishing fee. The landowner has a duty to inform the tenants / fishermen about the current regulations in the river and to check whether the fishermen have paid the fishing fee.

§3 Disinfection of fishing equipment.

All fishing equipment (waders, waders, wading shoes, reels, boat etc.) that is used in other waterways in the same season and that is to be used for fishing in the Gloppen River must be disinfected before starting fishing. Receipts must be shown to the fisheries inspectorate on request.

§4 Fishing times, valid for the entire river.

Salmon: f.o.m. 01.06 – until 15.08. Sea trout: f.o.m. 15.06 – until 31.08

§5 Fishing equipment.

Legal fishing equipment is fly, lure, spinner and wobbler. When using a fly as bait, it is the fly line that must make up the casting weight. When using lures, spinners, wobblers, up to 3 hooks can be used (1 triple hook is counted as 3 hooks.)

§6 Daily quotas, annual quotas, minimum and maximum targets and rescheduling.

The following personal daily quota applies to fishing in the Gloppen River: (cannot be transferred to others)

1 salmon above 3 kg per rod/ per person per day and night
1 sea trout above 2.5 kg per rod/per person per day and night

All female salmon above 65 cm are protected and must be released alive again (C/R). If the fisherman is in doubt about the sex of the fish, the fish MUST be returned alive to the river (C/R). If the fisherman is in doubt as to whether the fish will survive re-release, the fish must be killed and handed in to the river owner association. Fish that has been handed in does not go on the quota once the handing in has been confirmed. This also applies in case of misjudgment of sex. Fish that have been returned to the river (C/R) are not counted in the daily/annual quota. All salmon and sea trout under 35 cm must be returned alive.

The annual quota for killed salmon is 5. and sea trout are 2 pcs. per person, regardless of weight. This quota is personal and cannot be transferred to others. When the annual quota has been filled, fishing must end for the season. Fish that have been released again (C/R) are not counted in the annual quota.

If the daily quota has been reached for e.g. salmon, fishing for salmon must end for the respective fishing day. The fishing day starts at 17:00 to 17:00. There is no 24-hour security.

A shell sample must be taken from all fish that are killed and taken ashore. Envelopes can be found in selected places along the river. The shell sample envelopes must also be handed in at the marked places.

Farmed salmon, rainbow trout and humpback salmon must be killed and reported in line with other catches, but these do not count against any quota.

§7 Re-release / catch & realease of salmon.

Fish to be returned to the river (C/R) must be handled in a gentle manner in line with the practices shown in the folder "Reintroduction of salmon fishing, Catch and Release". This is at www.norskeelver.no. Fish to be put back must not be taken out of the river and/or lifted after the trace, but held out in the water, in the trace or in the net, while the hook is released. Hold the fish under the belly and in the groove in flowing water, until you feel the fish begin to come to life, before it is towed. All female salmon over 65 cm and which are injured and will not survive after re-release must be killed and handed in to the river owner.

All fishermen must have hook pliers, as well as equipment to check the length of the catch when fishing.

The following guidelines apply:

The fish must be bled (drained) as quickly as possible
Do not place the fish on the ground and avoid direct contact with soil/sand and direct sunlight
All handling of the fish must be done with good hand hygiene
The fish must be placed in clean containers that are suitable for contact with food

§8 Sanctions for breach of the rules

Violations of the fishing rules and complicity in violations are punishable cf. Act on salmon fishing and inland fishing. Breach of the rules can result in being banned from the river for the rest of the season and you can be reported to the police.

Persons caught for quota violations or unacceptable behavior can be turned away from the river for up to two years. Excluded fishermen are themselves responsible for refraining from fishing. If this is not followed, the exclusion will be extended. In the event of a lack of catch reporting and submission of shell samples, one may be turned away from the river for the rest of the season.

In the event of a dispute, the case will be brought before the Fjordane district court.
