The river of Toåa runs through the valley of Todalen in Surnadal municipality, Møre og Romsdal county. Toåa ends in the western part of Trollheimen and stretches all the way to Oppdal municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county.
Toåa flows mostly in a northwesterly direction and gets its inflow from several tributaries. Some worth mentioning are: Neåa, Nauståa, Romåa, Bjøråa and Haukåa. The latter is the largest tributary. The river flows in to Todalsfjorden, then later Stangvikfjorden and Halsafjorden.
Toåa has a salmon-bearing stretch of 8 kilometers from the rivers outlet to Storfossen.
Toåa is a middle sized west coast watercourse with a great stock of sea trout and salmon. The river flows through a beautiful cultural landscape surrounded by big mountains and active agriculture.
The fishing opportunities that is offered for the public today is really good. When buying a fishing license, you are able to fish in big parts of the river. You can buy a day, week or season license. The price level is decent and you will be having plenty of space to fish.
There has been done a lot of work to facilitate the river in Toåa. These are things like clearing out trails, building thresholds and improving the accessibility. Most of the hulls are marked with their names.
