Fish Freeburn

Freeburn is a mile left bank on the river Findhorn near Tomatin and has been described by a rod who has fished in the area for more than 15 years as being "the best". The beat supports a maximum of 3 rods at any time and has 4 well established pools and a couple of good runs and over the years has seen some very nice fish caught, many into the 20's.

Freeburn has been very rarely fished for the past few years and the full potential of the beat is yet to be fully realised. The run of spring fish starts as soon as the water warms up after the winter, usually late April early May. Mid June to July sees the Grilse run and late August onwards the main Salmon run. As with all spate rivers in the summer you take your chance with water levels although historically September has seen a number of fish caught even when water levels have been low.

Fishing is strictly by fly only and Freeburn supports the river Findhorn conservation code and requests specific adherence to the beat conditions below.

Anglers must release all fish caught up to 31st May inclusive.
From 01 June anglers must release all fish over 9lbs / 28 inches (4 Kg / 72 cm), all coloured, stale and gravid fish AND ALL hen fish.
Failure to comply with these rules will result in immediate forfeiture of any and all fishing booked.

WHILST THE ESTATE HEAD KEEPER MAY FROM TIME TO TIME VISIT THE BEAT TO ASK ANGLERS WHAT THEY HAVE CAUGHT ALL ANGLERS MUST SUBMIT A CATCH RETURN TO THE FACTORS WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE DAY(S) FISHED. NIL RETURNS MUST ALSO BE REPORTED.

ANGLERS FAILING TO REPORT CATCHES MAY BE REFUSED FURTHER FISHING AND HAVE BOOKED FISHING CANCELLED WITHOUT REFUND.

ANGLERS DELIBERATELY UNDER REPORTING CATCHES WILL BE REFUSED FUTURE FISHING
